Sore throat, feeling a little achey, in need of a little TLC? I wasn't feeling on top form and had lost my voice when one of my lovely yoga teachers recommended this. I have to say, I was sceptical when the lovely Grace told me to brew up a batch of this, but I diligently complied. I found the biggest mug that I could find and poured the lot in and then sat drinking it, whilst feeling a little sorry for myself. Well, I don't know what the magical ingredient is, whether its the kick from the cayenne or the soothing honey, but a few cups later and I was feeling back on form. Grace advocates garlic, but I just can't bring myself to put it in, although I'm reliably informed that it does the job (whilst also tasting a little like a drink of curry, add it if you dare!).
Ingredients
Juice of 1 lemon
1 inch of ginger, peeled and finely grated
1 dessert spoon of honey
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8-1/4 tsp turmeric
400ml just boiled water
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed (optional)
Directions
Place the lemon juice, grated ginger and honey in the bottom of a large jug.
Pour over the boiled water and stir well.
Add in the cayenne and turmeric (and garlic) and stir again.
Pour into your desired mug.
Serve.
